Alice Guo, the suspended mayor of Bamban, saw her official Facebook page taken down following Senator Risa Hontiveros’s call for her to address allegations before the Senate.
Earlier, Hontiveros urged Guo to appear before the Senate, pointing out that Guo had been active on Facebook while avoiding the Senate’s inquiries. In a recent post, Guo asserted her Filipino identity and urged an end to the spread of false information about her.
As of now, Guo’s Facebook page is inaccessible. Attempts to reach her legal counsel, Stephen David, have not yet yielded a response.
On her birthday last week, Guo posted a message expressing gratitude for her supporters amidst the accusations. She apologized to those inadvertently involved and reiterated her commitment to her town and country. “Ako po ay isang FILIPINO. At MAY MALAKING puso for BAMBAN at mahal na mahal ko ang Pilipinas,” she declared.
Guo’s post came just before reports of an arrest order issued by the Senate due to her repeated absences from the investigation into the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Bamban.
Her lawyer, Stephen David, previously stated that Guo avoided the Senate hearings due to the trauma and adverse impact on her health caused by the proceedings.
The Senate committee is probing Guo’s alleged involvement in the illegal POGO hub. Additionally, her citizenship is under scrutiny due to conflicting testimonies and questionable documents. The National Bureau of Investigation recently confirmed that Guo and Chinese passport holder Guo Hua Ping share identical fingerprints.
