A suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed following an armed encounter with government forces in Barangay Humay-humay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on May 1, 2025.
Authorities recovered the body during a clearing operation after the gunfight. Police Lieutenant Jerome de Lara, deputy chief of the Guihulngan City Police, said troops also seized an M16 rifle, several rounds of ammunition, subversive documents, and personal belongings at the scene.
One soldier from the Philippine Army sustained injuries during the clash.
Due to the encounter, some residents were evacuated to safer areas. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is currently assessing how many residents were directly affected.
