Police confiscated ₱15 million worth of tampered liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks in a warehouse in Guiguinto, Bulacan. The operation followed complaints from local residents, according to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report on 24 Oras.

Details of the Scheme

The tampered LPG tanks were found to contain only 9 kilograms of gas instead of the standard 11 kilograms. Police Lieutenant Colonel Milgrace Driz, provincial officer of the Bulacan Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, explained:

“They are tampering with the weights so that refilling stations can sell these tanks at a lower price. This creates unfair competition and violates intellectual property rights.”

The practice makes these LPG tanks cheaper than those sold through legitimate channels, attracting unwary buyers.

Serious Safety Risks

Authorities warned that the tampered LPG tanks pose significant safety hazards.

“These tanks could explode because they don’t go through proper quality control,” Driz cautioned.

Arrests and Next Steps

Six individuals were apprehended during the raid, but the warehouse owner remains at large. Authorities continue to investigate and have reached out to the suspects for comment.
