The Batangas Provincial Hospital in Lemery has temporarily stopped admitting patients after floodwaters inundated the facility amid persistent rains from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).
According to the Batangas Public Information Office (PIO), both the hospital ward and emergency room have been flooded. In a Facebook post, the PIO announced that the hospital is implementing a “NO ADMISSION” policy until conditions improve.
Photos shared by the PIO show the hospital without electricity, with staff and patients relying on emergency lights.
The provincial government is working with Lemery’s disaster risk management office to provide immediate support to the hospital.
Batangas is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, and weather bureau PAGASA expects the storm to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday afternoon. Government offices and schools in Luzon remain closed due to the ongoing inclement weather.
