Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa criticized President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for his pointed remarks against candidates opposing the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate.

During PDP-Laban’s proclamation rally in San Juan City, Dela Rosa expressed disappointment, saying:

“Uncalled for, unexpected coming from a President… Pero sige lang, tanggap namin ‘yan. This is the political season.”

Marcos had earlier stated that none of his endorsed candidates were involved in killings during the drug war, pandemic corruption, or subservience to China—remarks seemingly aimed at Duterte allies, including Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa, a key figure in Duterte’s controversial drug war, defended his past actions, saying:

“Wala akong problema… wala akong ka-kimi kiming madumihan ang aking kamay [ng] dugo kapag kinakailangang protektahan ang buhay ng matitino.” (“I have no qualms about getting my hands stained with blood if it means protecting good people.”)

On foreign policy, Dela Rosa denied being pro-China, declaring he would fight and even die in defense of the West Philippine Sea.

The 2025 midterm elections continue to highlight tensions between the Marcos and Duterte factions, setting the stage for a highly contested Senate race.
