MANILA, Philippines — Hundreds of thousands of residents across Metro Manila and Cavite were left without running water on Sunday, April 12, 2026, following a major pipe burst in Tondo, Manila.
Maynilad Water Services, Inc. issued an urgent advisory stating that emergency repair works began in the afternoon on a critical pipeline located at the corner of Sta. Maria and Coral Streets. The interruption, which began midday, was expected to last until at least 11:00 PM as field teams worked continuously to seal the leak.
The scale of the interruption was extensive, impacting multiple cities across the concession area:
- Manila: Over 150 barangays in the Tondo and Port Area districts experienced dry taps.
- Pasay City: Nearly 50 barangays were affected, including areas around the airport and Taft Avenue.
- Parañaque & Las Piñas: Extensive outages across major residential zones like BF Homes, Moonwalk, and Pulang Lupa.
- Cavite Province: Widespread interruptions hit the cities of Bacoor, Imus, and Cavite City, as well as the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario.
To assist affected households, Maynilad deployed a fleet of mobile water tankers to provide potable water to the most severely impacted communities.
- Stationary Tanks: Several stationary water tanks were also pre-positioned in strategic areas for public use.
- Restoration Progress: While the target for restoration was set for late Sunday night, residents were warned that water pressure might be weak initially as the system recharged.
- Water Quality Tip: Maynilad advised customers to let the water flow for a few seconds once service returns until it runs clear, as temporary cloudiness or sedimentation may occur.
The interruption came at a particularly difficult time, as Metro Manila and Cavite have been experiencing intense summer heat, with temperatures peaking at 86°F (30°C) earlier that day. Local government units (LGUs) in the affected areas coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to ensure that emergency water supplies were available for both domestic use and fire safety during the dry spell.
