Heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Ramil have left large parts of Capiz province submerged, affecting thousands of residents and causing severe damage to homes, crops, and infrastructure.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), floodwaters rose rapidly in several low-lying towns, displacing families and forcing local authorities to set up evacuation centers. Roads became impassable, and power interruptions were reported in some areas as strong winds and continuous downpours battered the province.

Governor Fredenil Castro urged residents to stay alert and prioritize safety as rescue teams worked around the clock to assist stranded families. Local government units have been distributing relief goods and coordinating with the national government for additional aid.

While Ramil has since weakened as it moved across the Visayas, authorities warn that heavy rains may continue in parts of Panay Island, raising concerns over possible landslides and flash floods.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that even though Ramil is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility soon, its tail-end effects could still bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Western Visayas in the coming days.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid crossing flooded areas until the waters subside.
