Carla Abellana, the Kapuso actress, has expressed her support for the legalization of divorce in the Philippines. In an interview with Nelson Canlas for “24 Oras,” Carla, a Catholic who considers herself “very realistic,” highlighted the challenges of marriage and the potential benefits of legalizing divorce.

A Realistic Perspective

“I see the bigger picture, and of course, sa panahon ngayon, iba na eh. Sa nakikita ko, ang daming magbe-benefit because aminin natin marriage isn’t easy. It can get toxic,” Carla stated. She emphasized the importance of considering those in abusive relationships.

Addressing Abusive Marriages

Carla called attention to the plight of individuals who remain in unhealthy marriages for the sake of their children or because they have no other options. “Sana mapirmahan na ‘yan, ma-finalize na. Because unfortunately nga there are marriages na nagse-stay nga sila for the sake of the children, they stay married dahil wala silang ibang option, pero hindi na healthy for the family, not just for the marriage. So ang dami and you know, I’m sure dapat pakinggan nila ‘yung mga citizens, mga Filipinos,” she said.

Personal Experience

Carla herself has experienced a failed marriage. She married Tom Rodriguez in 2021, but they divorced the following year after Tom, an American citizen, filed for divorce in the United States. Carla has stated that she no longer sees herself getting married again. “Nag-iba po eh, nabulabog ang aking concept,” she mentioned in an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.”

Following their separation, Carla was granted a protection order against Tom after filing with the local courts.

Upcoming Projects

Despite her personal challenges, Carla continues to focus on her career. She is set to star in the upcoming murder-mystery series “Widow’s War” alongside Bea Alonzo.
