Filipino Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has been awarded two houses and lots by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) in recognition of his outstanding achievements at the recent Paris 2024 Olympics. The POC fulfilled its promise to reward Olympic gold medalists, providing Yulo with two two-storey houses on a 500-square-meter lot, valued at approximately P15 million, as confirmed by POC Secretary-General Atty. Wharton Chan.
In addition to Yulo, bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas were each given a bungalow on 200-square-meter lots, further acknowledging their impressive performances.
“This has become a tradition,” said POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino in a press release on Tuesday. “First, Hidilyn Diaz was given the best for bringing the country its first Olympic gold medal. Now, it’s Caloy [Yulo], Nesthy, and Aira’s turn to be honored with the same reward for their historic efforts.”
Tolentino emphasized the dedication and sacrifice of these athletes in their respective sports. “These athletes invested their lives into the sports they love and now, they’re reaping the fruits of their sacrifices,” he added.
Tolentino also highlighted the POC’s unwavering support for Filipino athletes, stating, “The POC doesn’t think twice about these rewards. An Olympic medal, regardless of color, is the most precious medal in sports.”
Yulo, Petecio, and Villegas have also received additional rewards from various government offices and private sector sponsors in recognition of their achievements at the Paris Olympics.
