Starting July 2025, commuters on the LRT and MRT lines can pay their fares using debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets—no more need for Beep cards.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that cashless turnstiles will be rolled out across the rail systems next month as part of a new automatic fare collection (AFC) system. This move aims to reduce long queues, improve convenience, and minimize physical contact.

“You’ll just tap your phone or card—there’s no need to buy a Beep card anymore,” said DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, confirming that the system supports open-loop payments using widely accepted financial platforms.

Dizon noted the quick implementation, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to modernize fare payments and integrate them with various financial technologies.

Passengers welcomed the move, saying it would help eliminate lines, simplify travel, and improve public health safety.
