Cassandra Ong, a representative of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) firm Lucky South 99, has asked the House Quad Committee (QuadComm) for permission to have a companion during her detention at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW), citing severe mental health concerns.

According to Abang Lingkod party-list Representative Stephen Paduano, Ong submitted a letter requesting a friend’s presence to help her manage “severe mental breakdowns, anxiety attacks, and severe depression.” Ong has been held in detention after being cited for contempt by the QuadComm for her repeated refusal to submit documents related to Lucky South 99.

Antipolo Representative Romeo Acop emphasized that the committee must first consult with CIW authorities to ensure the request aligns with detention facility protocols. Rep. Paduano echoed this stance, stating that the QuadComm would consider CIW’s decision on the matter to avoid further hearings on the request.

In addition, Santa Rosa, Laguna Representative Dan Fernandez proposed sending a House medical team to assess Ong’s health. The committee, led by Chairperson and Surigao del Norte Rep. Ace Barbers, agreed to coordinate with CIW and adopt their final decision.

The QuadComm has expressed suspicion that Ong may be acting as a “dummy” for Lucky South 99 due to her reluctance to disclose information about her income source.
