A devastating multi-vehicle accident in Dinalupihan, Bataan has resulted in the tragic loss of four lives, with an additional 26 individuals sustaining injuries. The calamity unfolded a little after 7 p.m. on Wednesday along Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Barangay Bangad, casting a dark shadow over the community.

According to the reports, the root of the catastrophe was a passenger bus, originating from Pampanga and en route to Olongapo City, which lost control due to brake failure. The bus became an uncontrollable force, hitting a series of vehicles including a motorcycle, two tricycles, an L300 van, and eventually a passenger jeepney traveling in the opposite direction towards Bataan.

The collision was of such magnitude that it caused the jeepney to overturn, while the bus continued its uncontrolled trajectory, ending up off the road. The scene was one of chaos and distress, prompting a swift response from emergency personnel who rushed to provide medical assistance to the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals.

The 54-year-old bus driver, now in police custody, pointed to a brake malfunction as the cause of the horrific incident. Meanwhile, authorities and the public await a statement from the bus company’s management regarding the accident. Legal consequences are imminent for the driver, who is set to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides, physical injuries, and property damage.

This heartbreaking event serves as a somber reminder of the critical importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety measures, with hopes that such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
