The Cebu Provincial government continue to ban the entry of live poultry and wild birds from areas affected by the Avian Influenza virus.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia issued on May 23, 2022 Executive Order No. 14 which took effect on May 24, 2022, imposed an indefinite ban on the entry of live birds both poultry and non-poultry in areas coming from Luzon, Mindanao and countries with bird flu cases.
Cebu Province remained free from Avian Influenza as it continue to protect the P12 billion poultry industry in Cebu.
The governor’s EO ban includes day-old chicks, day-old pullets, ready-to-lay pullets, ducks, quails, game fowls, pigeons and pet birds.
The EO added that transshipment of live birds originating from AI-free provinces/areas may be allowed to enter and/or pass-through Cebu if movement of birds is done within the seaport and airport area/vicinity.
To maximize efforts in the ground, the associations of Barangay Aminal Health Aides shall be mobilized to provide assistance to their respective LGUs in the monitoring of risk areas and in the implementation of the Avian Influenza preparedness and response plan.-(April Therese Tan)
