In Quezon City, a 41-year-old man was apprehended following his involvement in two separate instances of cellphone snatching, both of which were captured by CCTV cameras. The successful arrest was made by officers from the Anonas Police Station during a follow-up operation in Barangay Payatas.
The incidents occurred in Barangay Sikatuna Village, where the victims were ambushed by the perpetrator riding a motorcycle, swiftly snatching their cellphones while they were walking and using their devices.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Casiano, the chief of the Anonas Police Station, detailed the suspect’s modus operandi: patrolling neighborhoods in search of potential victims, typically those engrossed in their cellphones while walking. Upon spotting an opportunity, the thief would quickly return to snatch the device.
Investigations revealed that this is not the suspect’s first encounter with the law, as this marks his fourth arrest, with previous charges related to drug-related offenses. The suspect confessed to the crimes, citing financial needs for his parents as the motive behind his actions.
The individual now faces charges of robbery and violation of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, as authorities continue to clamp down on street crimes and enhance public safety in Quezon City.
