The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division has disqualified Pasig congressional aspirant Christian Sia from running in the 2025 elections due to lewd and discriminatory comments about single mothers made during a campaign event.
In its ruling released Thursday, the Comelec granted a disqualification petition filed by Task Force SAFE, which cited Sia’s inappropriate remarks as grounds for his removal from the race. The commission also stated that if Sia garners the most votes, his proclamation will be suspended until a final resolution is reached.
Sia sparked outrage in April when he joked that lonely single mothers “with their period” could sleep with him once a year. Despite claiming his comments were protected by free speech, he faced multiple show cause orders, including one for misogynistic statements directed at a female staffer during another campaign sortie.
Sia has yet to comment publicly on the decision.
