Quezon City, Philippines – Several eastbound lanes of Commonwealth Avenue were temporarily closed on Sunday morning to accommodate ongoing work on the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) project.

According to a report from Super Radyo dzBB, the affected lanes stretch from near University Avenue to just before Tandang Sora Avenue, heading toward Fairview. The closure was necessary for the installation of rafters and beams using cranes for the footbridge that will connect to the MRT-7 Tandang Sora Station.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) initially scheduled the road closure until 4 a.m. on Sunday. However, due to delays in the construction work, the lanes are now expected to reopen by 10 a.m.

To ease traffic flow, authorities have opened a zipper lane for motorists heading toward Fairview, using a portion of Commonwealth Avenue in the opposite direction toward Quezon Memorial Circle. As of 6:20 a.m., traffic remained manageable, with only a slight buildup caused by a stalled truck.

MRT-7 Project Updates

The MRT-7, a 22-kilometer railway line, will feature 14 stations from Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. The DOTr has announced that partial operations—covering stations from North Avenue to Quirino—are expected to begin by late 2025.

Once fully operational, the MRT-7 will significantly cut travel time between Quezon City and San Jose del Monte to just 35 minutes.

Motorists are advised to stay updated on further road adjustments related to the MRT-7 project.
