John Paul Celedoña, a 28-year-old former Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL), finds himself behind bars once again after attempting to smuggle shabu (methamphetamine) inside bananas, a tactic colloquially known as “sha-ging,” into a jail in Minglanilla, Cebu. Celedoña, initially visiting a friend in prison, was caught during a routine check at the Minglanilla BJMP Facility’s searching area.

The incident, which has been a topic of discussion in GMA Regional TV’s Balitang Bisdak and also reported in Unang Balita, highlights the ongoing challenge of drug smuggling within correctional facilities. When the authorities inspected Celedoña’s belongings, they discovered a packet of suspected shabu hidden inside a banana.

Celedoña, previously incarcerated for drug-related offenses, now faces potential charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. The situation serves as a stark reminder of the relentless efforts to curb drug trafficking and the inventive methods used by individuals to circumvent security measures in prisons.

The incident has not elicited any comment from Celedoña himself, as reported by GMA Integrated News. His apprehension underscores the vigilance required by authorities to maintain the integrity of correctional facilities and the ongoing battle against illegal drug trade.
