A heated case of road rage in Quezon City turned deadly when a police officer fatally shot a driver along Tandang Sora Avenue on Thursday evening
According to a witness interviewed by 24 Oras, the altercation began after two utility vehicles nearly collided. Both drivers reportedly became aggressive, with one vehicle blocking the other. The suspect exited his vehicle and allegedly punched the other driver before firing multiple shots.
“He punched our driver and already had his gun out. He fired right away. We couldn’t react. He used almost all the bullets,” the witness said.
The victim was hit seven times with 9mm rounds and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Another passenger was injured and underwent surgery.
The suspect, a 48-year-old Police Executive Master Sergeant from the Batasan Police Station, surrendered hours later. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) stated that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident, claiming the victim had attacked the officer with a steel pipe, prompting him to retaliate.
“He was cut off twice by the other driver, so he blocked the vehicle to confront him,” said QCPD CIDU chief Police Major Don Llapitan. “The victim allegedly stabbed him with a steel pipe before the officer responded with gunfire.”
The officer now faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide. Police emphasized that such actions are unacceptable, even under provocation.
“We do not tolerate losing tempers like this,” Llapitan said. “Police must practice maximum tolerance—firearms are never to be used just out of anger.”
