Manila, Philippines – A lifeless infant was discovered on a pile of trash in Baseco Compound, Manila, on Thursday night, authorities reported.

According to GMA Integrated News, CCTV footage showed two men spotting the baby’s body near the seawall in Block 15 around 10 p.m. The remains were wrapped in a blood-stained bedsheet.

Barangay 649 desk officer Nearwin Surposa shared that a woman searching through the garbage first noticed the fetus.

“We are reviewing CCTV footage to determine who left the baby there and at what time,” Surposa added.

Authorities cordoned off the area, and funeral service personnel arrived to retrieve the infant’s body.

Surposa urged the person responsible to have chosen a proper burial instead, saying:

“Whoever left the baby there should not have done that. The remains could have been buried properly.”

Police have launched an investigation to identify those involved.
