A tragic incident occurred at the BFCT East Metro Transport Terminal in Barangay Calumpang, Marikina City, on a Sunday morning, resulting in the loss of two lives. The fire, which was first reported at 9:24 a.m., caused significant damage, engulfing a bus, a big truck, and a van parked at the terminal. Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions before the blaze erupted.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is in the process of identifying the victims found between the burned truck and bus. The BFP is also investigating the cause of the fire, which led to several vehicles being destroyed.

Further investigation by the Eastern Police District and the BFP revealed that the fire was caused by fireworks stored inside the truck. PBGen. Wilson Asueta, Director of the Eastern Police District, stated that the truck, which had returned from Taytay, Rizal with a load of fabrics the previous evening, contained fireworks. These combustible materials, in combination with the fireworks, triggered the fire that subsequently spread to adjacent vehicles. The victims of the fire were identified as the truck driver, who was inside the vehicle, and his assistant, who was beside the truck at the time of the explosion. Authorities are now examining the truck owner’s responsibility in this tragic event.
