Dengue cases across the Philippines saw an 8% decrease in mid-October, with 21,097 new cases recorded from September 29 to October 12, compared to 23,032 cases two weeks prior, according to the Department of Health (DOH). This brings the year-to-date total to 314,785 cases.

The DOH also reported a decline in dengue-related deaths, with a case fatality rate of 0.26% as of October 26, down from 0.34% during the same period in 2023.

Despite the nationwide decrease, certain regions saw case increases. The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded a rise from 2,765 to 3,002 cases, Central Luzon from 2,219 to 2,351, and Calabarzon from 2,907 to 3,513. The recent rainy season, which created more mosquito breeding grounds due to stagnant water, is likely a contributing factor.

The DOH-Metro Manila Center for Health Development has noted a steady rise in dengue and leptospirosis cases in NCR, with potential further increases due to flooding from recent typhoons.

The DOH is encouraging the public to follow the “4S” strategy to combat dengue: Search and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, Secure self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Support spraying or fogging in identified hotspots.
