Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, detained leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), was hospitalized last week after experiencing chest pains and an irregular heartbeat, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). Quiboloy, who is currently held at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, was taken to the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City last Friday following his complaints of chest discomfort on Thursday.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo reported that Quiboloy’s hospital transfer was permitted by a court order from the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Pasig City. Initially scheduled to return to detention by Monday noon, the court extended his medical furlough until November 16 to complete further medical examinations.
“The PNP Custodial Center received an email copy of the Pasig RTC order extending the medical furlough of Apollo Quiboloy until November 16 at 5 p.m. to allow the completion of required examinations,” Fajardo said in a press briefing.
A preliminary examination conducted by the PNP Health Service indicated that Quiboloy suffers from “atrial fibrillation in rapid ventricular response,” an irregular heartbeat that could potentially be life-threatening. Based on this finding, the PNP Health Service recommended further medical evaluations, prompting Quiboloy’s camp to file an urgent petition for hospital care, which was subsequently granted by the court.
Previously, the Pasig RTC had dismissed Quiboloy’s plea for hospital arrest. He faces serious charges, including non-bailable qualified human trafficking under Republic Act No. 9208 and charges under the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act (Republic Act 7610).
