The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formally requested the cancellation of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s passports, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed on Monday.

Remulla said the move aims to compel Roque to return to the Philippines and face charges, adding that Roque reportedly holds multiple passports. “It limits his options. What matters is he’s forced to face the consequences of his actions,” he stated.

Roque is facing charges of qualified human trafficking, with an arrest warrant issued by the Angeles City Regional Trial Court. The DOJ is also preparing to seek an Interpol red notice to facilitate Roque’s apprehension abroad.

In response, Roque revealed he has applied for asylum in the Netherlands, citing political persecution due to his association with the Duterte family. He emphasized that under international law, he cannot be extradited while his asylum request is under review.

Remulla dismissed Roque’s claim, expressing doubt that the Netherlands would grant asylum due to its strong stance against human trafficking.

If the passport cancellation is approved, Roque would be classified as an undocumented alien abroad.
