MANILA — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has not received any formal recantation or affidavit of desistance from Apollo Quiboloy’s spokesperson, Atty. Alcantara, contrary to claims circulating online as of January 11, 2026.

DOJ spokesperson Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano clarified in a statement:

“As of today, the Department of Justice has not received any recantation or affidavit of desistance from Atty. Alcantara or any other witness in the cases against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. Any claim to the contrary is premature and unverified.”

Background

  • Multiple complaints and charges have been filed against Apollo Quiboloy (child abuse, qualified trafficking, sexual abuse, etc.) before various courts and the DOJ.
  • Atty. Alcantara, who previously acted as Quiboloy’s legal counsel and spokesperson, had been named in some reports as a potential witness.
  • Rumors emerged online (especially on social media) suggesting Alcantara was preparing or had already submitted a recantation, which would supposedly weaken the cases.

Clavano emphasized that:

  • All witnesses who have executed affidavits remain cooperative as far as the DOJ knows.
  • Any change in testimony or desire to recant must be formally submitted through proper legal channels and would be subject to scrutiny for possible perjury or obstruction of justice.

The DOJ continues its investigation and prosecution of the cases against Quiboloy and his co-accused.

Quick Status Summary (as of Jan 11, 2026)

  • Recantation status: Not received by DOJ
  • Witness cooperation: Still active per DOJ
  • Cases: Ongoing (multiple courts + DOJ level)
