The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that elevators will soon be operational in five footbridges along the EDSA Busway, aiming for functionality by the end of June.

In a report by 24 Oras correspondent Oscar Oida, DOTR Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Jesus Ferdinand Ortega expressed optimism about the project, stating, “Hopefully, it becomes functional by June, before July arrives, so that it can help passengers of the busway.”

The installation of these elevators has been eagerly anticipated by commuters, particularly senior citizens and individuals with disabilities who struggle with the stairs. Frequent passenger and stroke survivor Herminio Domingo shared his relief, saying, “I won’t get too tired… I hope they finish it soon so people like me can use it.” Similarly, Josie Ramos commented, “When it starts operating, it will be better. It won’t be difficult any longer because there will be an elevator.”

In other updates, DOTr also revealed plans to open the first 12 stations of the MRT-7 by the end of 2025. These stations will stretch from North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino mentioned that the following two stations, Station 13 and 14, are expected to be operational a year later.

“This June, there will be a joint inspection with the LGU for their proposed alignments so that we can study what would be more beneficial for the constituents of San Jose del Monte and for the other passengers who want to go to that area,” Aquino added.
