Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena recorded a “no mark” in the Oslo stop of the Diamond League after failing all three attempts in the men’s pole vault event.
Obiena chose to bypass the opening height of 5.40 meters but was unable to clear 5.62 meters in any of his three tries. “This is sport sometimes,” he shared in an Instagram story following the result.
The setback follows a high point in his season, having just secured his third consecutive gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships.
Meanwhile, Sweden’s Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, the world’s top-ranked pole vaulter, soared past the meet record by clearing 6.15 meters, surpassing the previous mark of 6.02 meters.
