Twelve years after their popular pairing in Princess and I, Enrique Gil is open to reuniting with Kathryn Bernardo, though he clarified that no such project is currently in the works.
In an interview at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal, Gil addressed rumors of a reunion with Bernardo, saying:
“I’m not sure about that. I haven’t heard about it. But I’m always open to anything, of course.”
Expanding Horizons: Producing and Acting
Gil, the lead star of the MMFF entry Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital, has been diversifying his career. Aside from acting, he has ventured into production through his company, Immerse Entertainment.
In 2024, he produced the Valentine’s Day comedy I Am Not Big Bird and now aims to create more projects across various genres, including traditional and meta-horror, comedy, and action.
“This is just the beginning. I was able to produce a slapstick comedy, and now a meta-style horror. I still want to create a traditional horror in the future. I also have a concept for an action-horror film,” he shared.
Moving Beyond Love Teams
While Enrique is exploring solo projects, he hasn’t completely ruled out working in love teams:
“I’m not saying goodbye. I’ve been doing it all my life, but for now, I want to focus on genres I haven’t tried before. This way, when I grow older, I can say I’ve done it all.”
Exciting Projects Ahead
Enrique revealed that he has co-produced a new ABS-CBN show set to film in Europe next year.
“It’s my concept, and I pitched it to ABS-CBN. I’m thrilled that Tita Cory [Vidanes] liked it and greenlit the project. I’m super excited!”
MMFF Recognition
His latest film, Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital, inspired by Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, received accolades at the MMFF. It won Best Sound and earned seven nominations, including Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Actress for Jane de Leon.
Enrique’s journey continues to evolve, promising more groundbreaking projects for his fans.
