LAS PIÑAS CITY – A couple and their two children were killed in a devastating fire that engulfed their home in Barangay Pulang Lupa Uno early Monday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed.
According to reports from Super Radyo dzBB, the victims were all members of one family, including a 17-year-old and a 3-year-old child. They were trapped on the second floor when the mezzanine collapsed due to the intense blaze.
The fire started at around 1:20 a.m. and reached first alarm status within 20 minutes. Four fire trucks responded to the blaze, which occurred in a house situated inside a narrow alley, complicating rescue and containment efforts.
Firefighters were able to declare the fire out by 2:37 a.m.
Investigators are looking into faulty electrical wiring or an overheated appliance as the possible cause. Initial estimates placed the property damage at around ₱600,000.
This incident adds to a growing number of fire-related fatalities in Metro Manila this year, prompting renewed calls for stricter safety measures in residential areas.
