The anticipation is over as HYBE Labels’ newest girl group, KATSEYE, has officially debuted!
On Friday, the group released their music video titled “Debut” on YouTube. The two-minute video features Sophia Laforteza from the Philippines, along with Daniela, Lara, and Megan from the United States, Manon from Switzerland, and Yoonchae from South Korea.
In addition to their debut video, KATSEYE is set to release their debut EP, “SIS (Soft Is Strong),” in August.
KATSEYE was formed through the reality show “The Debut: Dream Academy,” a collaboration between HYBE and Geffen Records. The show featured contestants undergoing the rigorous K-Pop idol training system before forming the global girl group. Out of 120,000 applicants worldwide, twenty aspiring idols competed for a spot in the group.
Sophia Laforteza stands out as the only Filipino contestant and the first Filipino artist under HYBE. After securing her place in KATSEYE, Sophia expressed her gratitude to her supporters, saying, “Thank you for helping me make my dream come true.”
HYBE manages other global artists like BTS, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, SEVENTEEN, ENHYPEN, and NewJeans, making Sophia’s inclusion in KATSEYE a significant milestone for Filipino representation in the K-Pop industry.
