In a recent survey conducted by Visa, Filipinos have been highlighted as one of the top spenders on live concerts in the Asia-Pacific region. The study places them at the fourth position, showcasing their love and financial commitment to live music experiences. The survey, which polled 500 individuals across the Philippines, found that 38% of respondents attended concerts in the past year, both within the country and internationally.
This fervent support for live music places the Philippines just behind India, Vietnam, and Indonesia, illustrating a vibrant concert-going culture. Among these enthusiastic fans, a notable 37% traveled abroad specifically for concerts, emphasizing their dedication to live performances.
The passion for music and live events was vividly exemplified by Blessa Jana Samuel, a devoted Taylor Swift fan. Samuel embarked on a journey to Japan to attend Swift’s The Eras Tour, financing her trip through the sale of Taylor Swift merchandise. Her story highlights the lengths to which Filipino fans are willing to go for their favorite artists, underscoring the emotional and financial investments they make.
Sociologist Samuel Cabbuag attributed this trend to the Filipinos’ desire to support their idols, viewing the expense as a worthwhile investment in unforgettable experiences. The report by Visa also predicts that this trend will continue into 2024, driven by a resurgence of live events and the presence of popular acts in the region.
This enthusiasm for live music, coupled with the willingness to travel, showcases the significant role concerts play in the cultural and social landscape of the Philippines. It’s a testament to the value placed on live entertainment and the memorable experiences it brings.
