CATBALOGAN CITY — Heavy rains brought by the shear line and northeast monsoon (amihan) caused flooding in several towns across Samar and Eastern Samar provinces on January 10, 2026 (Friday), affecting low-lying villages, farmlands, and some roads.
According to initial reports from local disaster offices:
Affected Areas & Extent
- Basey, Samar — Multiple barangays submerged; knee- to waist-deep floodwaters in Poblacion and riverside areas.
- Marabut, Samar — Coastal and low-lying villages flooded; some residents evacuated.

- Prepare for possible after-hours or overnight flooding
The rains are expected to continue in Eastern Visayas due to the active shear line, with moderate to heavy downpours possible through the weekend.
