Lanao del Sur, Philippines – Former Lumbaca-Unayan Mayor Abdulazis Tadua Aloyodan was shot and killed on the morning of February 26, 2025, just outside his home near the municipal hall.
According to police reports, Aloyodan was at the motor pool in Barangay Oriental Beta when a gunman inside a white pickup truck opened fire, hitting him multiple times. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival due to severe gunshot wounds.
Authorities recovered multiple shell casings from the scene and are investigating possible motives, including political rivalry and rido (family feud). A special investigation task group has been formed, and a manhunt for the suspects is underway.
Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for vigilance and rejecting violence as the province approaches election season.
The victim’s wife, the current mayor of Lumbaca-Unayan, has yet to issue a statement.
