Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin expressed heartfelt gratitude after their Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2024 entry, My Future You, gained recognition as the festival’s “dark horse.” The Crisanto B. Aquino-directed film bagged the 3rd Best Picture award along with multiple accolades at the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal.

The film, which tells the unconventional love story between Karen and Lex, who are 15 years apart in age, stood out in a lineup dominated by thrillers, social commentaries, and horror films.

A Touching Response to Recognition

Diaz shared her excitement about the audience’s reception:

“It’s overwhelming to see the positive comments from people. It makes me nervous but happy that casual viewers recognized us. We’re grateful to be seen as a ‘dark horse’ this year.”

Fedelin added that the film’s family-centered and heartfelt narrative likely contributed to its impact.

My Future You is Rated G and filled with love. It’s not just about romance but also about family. It touches the heart while teaching life lessons.”

Winning Hearts and Awards

Fedelin also recounted how the film even won over some of his critics:

“I read a comment saying someone who used to dislike me changed their opinion after watching the film. It’s heartwarming. We just want to prove we can contribute to Filipino cinema.”

Although Diaz and Fedelin missed out on the Best Actress and Best Actor awards, they earned nominations for their roles as Karen and Lex. Fedelin, however, won the Breakthrough Performance Award.

The film also took home awards for Best Director and Best Editing, cementing its status as a standout in this year’s festival
