Robert Go, the twin brother of detained actor Ricardo Cepeda, has initiated a fundraising campaign to support the financial demands of Cepeda’s ongoing legal battle. Since his arrest in October 2023 on charges including syndicated estafa and violations of the Bouncing Check Law and the Securities and Regulation Code, Cepeda’s legal expenses have become a significant burden for his family.

Through a GoFundMe page, Robert appeals to the public for assistance, highlighting the challenging journey ahead as Cepeda faces 23 court hearings scheduled from February to June 2024. The cost for each court appearance is estimated at $500 (over P28,000), not including the substantial attorney’s fees.

The delay in Cepeda’s bail hearing until April and the prolonged nature of the legal process in the Philippines have exacerbated the financial strain on Cepeda’s family. Despite these challenges, Robert emphasizes the outpouring of support, generosity, and encouragement from the public, which has served as a crucial support system during this difficult time.

Robert’s message underscores a deeper purpose in Cepeda’s plight, aiming to highlight the injustices faced by individuals wrongfully accused and the broader implications for the legal system’s treatment of similar cases. He urges the community to spread awareness of Cepeda’s situation and contribute to the fundraising effort, which seeks to alleviate the financial pressures associated with the actor’s defense.

As of now, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $6,813 (over P380,000), a testament to the public’s willingness to support Cepeda. The actor’s family, including his partner, actress Marina Benipayo, and his stepson, continue to advocate for his innocence and call for his release, stressing that he was wrongfully accused.

The case against Cepeda, who remains in police custody due to the non-bailable nature of the syndicated estafa charge, has drawn significant attention and support, highlighting the complexities and challenges within the Philippine legal system.
