The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) has officially revoked the professional license of basketball player John Amores following misconduct charges.
According to a decision obtained by GMA Integrated News’ Nico Waje, Amores was found “guilty of conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player.” The ruling, signed on December 4 by GAB chairman Atty. Francisco J. Rivera and commissioners Manuel Plaza and Angel Bautista, is effective immediately.
“The Respondent’s license is REVOKED effective immediately. Accordingly, the Respondent is no longer allowed to participate in any professional basketball games sanctioned by the Board,” stated the decision.
This verdict stemmed from a motu propio complaint against Amores, initiated without an external petitioner.
Amores has faced legal troubles since September, when he and his brother were charged with attempted homicide following a shooting incident in Laguna. The pair posted bail and were released from detention on September 27.
In response to his actions, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) earlier imposed a one-conference suspension without pay on Amores. NorthPort Batang Pier, his team, also required him to secure clearance from counselors before resuming play. The PBA emphasized that their decision was unrelated to Amores’ criminal case but focused on league rule violations.
As of this writing, GMA News Online is awaiting Amores’ response to the GAB ruling.
