The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) is planning to form an Olympic gymnastics team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with hopes of including Karl Eldrew Yulo, the younger sibling of double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.

Building on Success

GAP president Cynthia Carrion announced the initiative on Wednesday, highlighting the goal of building on Carlos Yulo’s remarkable success at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won gold medals in both the floor exercise and vault finals.

Promising Talent

Eldrew Yulo has shown significant promise in his young career, making him a prime candidate for the Olympic squad. Carrion expressed enthusiasm about including both Carlos and Eldrew in the team, aiming for a robust Philippine representation in LA.

“LA Olympics? I’m going to have a team, not only Carlos Yulo. I want the whole team, Philippine team,” Carrion said in a 24 Oras report by Joseph Morong. “With his brother as well. Carlos and Eldrew.”

Rising Stars

Eldrew has already made a name for himself by winning multiple medals in various national competitions, including six gold medals at the 2023 Palarong Pambansa. Additionally, their younger sister, Elaiza Yulo, has also showcased her talent, securing five gold medals in the recent Palarong Pambansa.

Future Prospects

With a focus on nurturing and developing young talent, GAP’s vision for the 2028 Olympics includes a comprehensive team effort, leveraging the skills and potential of athletes like Eldrew Yulo. This strategy aims to continue the legacy and elevate the Philippines’ standing in the global gymnastics arena.
