MANILA, Philippines — Moving beyond traditional step-tracking, Google officially introduced the Fitbit Air on Monday, May 11, 2026. This new, screenless wearable is designed as a discreet “pebble” that prioritizes 24/7 biometric monitoring and AI-generated guidance over raw data displays.

The launch coincides with a major rebranding of the Fitbit ecosystem, as the iconic Fitbit app officially begins its transition into the new Google Health app.

The Fitbit Air is Google’s smallest and most affordable tracker to date, focusing on a “screen-free” experience to reduce digital distractions.

  • Modular “Pebble” Design: The core tracker can be popped out and swapped between various bands, including the Performance Loop, Active Band, and a stylish Elevated Modern bracelet.
  • Battery and Charging: Despite its tiny frame, it boasts 7 days of battery life. A quick five-minute charge provides a full day of power.
  • Seamless Switching: Designed for 24/7 wear, users can wear their Pixel Watch during the day and switch to the lighter Fitbit Air for sleep without any data gaps in the Google Health app.

The centerpiece of the Fitbit Air experience isn’t the hardware, but the Google Health Coach, a new feature powered by Gemini AI.

  1. Personalized Weekly Plans: Leveraging Gemini, the coach builds a customized weekly plan based on your recent activity, sleep quality, and recovery metrics.
  2. Visual Exercise Logging: In a first for the lineup, users can use their phone’s camera to snap a photo of gym equipment or a whiteboard routine; the AI then automatically logs the circuit into the app.
  3. Pattern-Aware Coaching: If you’ve had a string of late nights or heavy training sessions, the coach proactively shifts recommendations toward active recovery and earlier wind-downs to prevent burnout.

The arrival of Fitbit Air marks the end of the standalone Fitbit app. Starting May 19, 2026, the app will automatically update to Google Health.

  • Four-Tab Layout: Data is now organized into Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.
  • Medical Integration: In select regions (initially the US), the app can sync with digital medical records, allowing the AI coach to summarize lab results and vitals alongside daily activity.
  • Subscription Model: The Google Health Coach requires a Google Health Premium subscription ($9.99/month), though it is included for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

The Fitbit Air is compatible with both Android 11+ and iOS 16.4+.
