Heart Evangelista revealed details about her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero’s previous health scare, calling it a life-changing moment and a wake-up call for their family.
In the latest episode of her show Heart World, the actress and Global Fashion Icon described the experience as “the most unforgettable moment in her life” and something she hopes never to relive.
The Ordeal
Heart recounted receiving distressing news about Chiz’s health while on a flight from Hong Kong to Thailand on March 28. She sensed something was wrong before her trip, noticing unusual changes in Chiz’s appearance and behavior.
“I saw it coming. First, wala siyang tulog lagi… I felt as if he’s not being careful with his health,” Heart shared. She recalled video-calling him and noticing his unusual facial appearance.
Upon landing in Bangkok, Heart immediately flew back to Manila and went straight to the hospital, describing the entire situation as a “nightmare.”
A Wake-Up Call
Chiz later revealed he had experienced a hypertensive episode, a condition he was diagnosed with two years prior. The scare prompted Heart to reevaluate her priorities, placing family and health above all else.
“What I realized is, aanhin mo lahat ng ‘to kung wala ka namang taong you’d like to share it with,” she said. “Your time here on Earth with your loved ones is far more important than all the riches and whatever fashion week [in the world].”
Renewed Focus on Health
Since the incident, Heart has prioritized Chiz’s wellbeing, ensuring everything is perfect for his health. Speaking on Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, she emphasized her deep bond with Chiz:
“Kasi if he goes, I go. You jump, I jump. I swear. Ako na lang mauna, ‘di ko talaga kaya.”
Heart also reflected on the fleeting nature of life.
“Life is so precious. You make the most out of it. You are blessed to be a blessing,” she said.
