Filipina actress and global fashion icon Heart Evangelista opened up about her emotional journey through multiple miscarriages during the latest episode of her show, “Heart World.”
The pain began in 2015, three years after she married Senator Chiz Escudero, when she first became pregnant with twins.
“I was afraid of the responsibilities [of having a child] when I was young. Then when I really wanted to have a child… I got pregnant right away. I had twins,” Heart shared.
However, she later learned that one of the babies had developed Vanishing Twin Syndrome, a condition where one twin disappears in the womb.
Despite her hopes for the remaining baby, an ultrasound at four months revealed no heartbeat.
Coping with Trauma
Heart admitted that the experience left her deeply traumatized, making her hesitant to try for a child again for a long time.
“I can say that now without crying kasi tumibay na ang loob ko, but it was very traumatizing for me,” she said.
She shared how she masked her pain through her work, attending prestigious events like New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, even while grieving.
“People thought I was OK… pero may dinadala pa akong bata. I really didn’t want to be pregnant after that because parang mabait naman ako? Bakit ganon?”
A Challenging Path to Motherhood
When Heart eventually decided to try again, she faced additional obstacles. Despite tests showing no health issues for her or Chiz, her egg production resembled that of someone in their late 40s, leaving her with very few viable eggs.
Out of four harvested eggs, only two were viable. Heart revealed that their first attempt with a surrogate mother carrying a baby girl ended in another loss.
“Medyo masakit kasi parang iniisip ko boy and girl ‘yun, last girl ko na ‘yun,” she recalled.
Their last embryo—a baby boy—also did not survive, which Heart described as particularly devastating.
“For me, that’s my last try.”
Finding Strength and Moving Forward
Now stronger after her experiences, Heart shared her story to shed light on the emotional toll of miscarriage and fertility struggles.
“Heart World” debuted on October 26 and airs every Saturday at 9:30 p.m. on GMA Network after “Magpakailanman.”
