The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has temporarily prohibited heavy equipment vehicles from crossing the Biliran Bridge, connecting the provinces of Leyte and Biliran, after reports of unusual swinging movements on the structure.

Wave-Like Movements Observed

Footage aired on 24 Oras showed concerning wave-like movements on the bridge, with visible shifting of steel bars. In response, the DPWH limited access to light vehicles, such as SUVs and passenger vans, to ensure safety.

Buses are allowed to cross but must drop off passengers before proceeding.

Safety Measures in Place

Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the bridge while implementing restrictions to prevent further strain on the aging structure. The DPWH has yet to announce if a long-term solution or repairs will follow.

The Biliran Bridge is a critical infrastructure link for residents and businesses in the region, making the temporary restrictions a significant logistical challenge for local transportation.
