A massive fire tore through the residential area of Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila, on Sunday morning, leaving extensive damage in its wake.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) initially declared the first alarm at 8:02 AM, but the blaze spread rapidly due to tightly packed houses made of light materials. By 9:02 AM, the fire escalated to Task Force Alpha and later reached Task Force Bravo at 10:13 AM.

Intense Firefighting Efforts

The fire’s intensity required a robust response, with 25 fire trucks, four fire boats, and one ambulance deployed to the scene. The Philippine Coast Guard joined the effort, with personnel from Coast Guard Station Manila and the Special Operations Unit – Malacañang aiding in firefighting and rescuing residents.

Despite valiant attempts to salvage their belongings, residents struggled amid thick black smoke. By 11:55 AM, the BFP raised the alert to Task Force Charlie.

The fire, which had reached homes near Manila Bay, was brought under control by 2:07 PM and declared completely extinguished at 4:07 PM.

Support from Authorities

The Philippine National Police and Philippine Army were present to assist with peace and order during the incident.

No immediate report was available on casualties or the extent of damage caused by the fire. The affected area, adjacent to the container terminal of the Port Area, is one of Tondo’s most densely populated communities.
