MANILA/JAKARTA — Indonesia has announced plans to deport Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, to the Philippines. Guo, who is accused of involvement in criminal syndicates and money laundering schemes amounting to billions of pesos, will be deported following a police investigation, according to Indonesia’s law minister, Supratman Andi Agtas.
Guo, also known as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, has been evading a congressional investigation in the Philippines, where she is wanted for her alleged criminal connections. Despite the allegations, Guo, who claims to be a natural-born Philippine citizen, has denied any wrongdoing, describing the accusations as “malicious.”
Law Minister Supratman confirmed the deportation but noted that the exact timing would depend on the outcomes of the ongoing police investigation.
Guo was apprehended in Tangerang, near Jakarta, in cooperation with Philippine authorities. She was reportedly aided by a former Chinese police officer and a Chinese monk during her flight from the Philippines.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised the bilateral cooperation that led to Guo’s arrest and emphasized that efforts are underway to finalize her return to the Philippines. “The arm of the law is long, and it will reach you,” Marcos warned, reiterating that evading justice is futile.
Upon her return, Guo will be handed over to Philippine law enforcement and subsequently to the Senate, according to Jaime Santiago, Director of the National Bureau of Investigation.
Guo, who initially ran for office as a Philippine citizen, was later discovered to have fingerprints matching those of a Chinese national. She fled the Philippines in July, traveling through Malaysia and Singapore before reaching Indonesia in August.
The Senate’s investigation into Guo’s activities began in May, following a casino raid in Bamban that uncovered operations linked to scams on land partially owned by her.
