In South Cotabato, Melecio Padojinig Jr. devised an inventive method to alleviate the intense heat in his home, reminiscent of an oven’s warmth, by installing water sprinklers on their corrugated iron roof. With no ceiling to shield them from the scorching heat, especially at noon, the Padojinig family’s house often became unbearably hot. The idea for this cooling solution came when Padojinig noticed a significant drop in temperature after spraying water on the roof, leading to the installation of three sprinklers.
These sprinklers, activated between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, mimic a refreshing rain shower exclusively for their residence, substantially reducing the indoor temperature. This innovative approach not only provided the family with much-needed relief from the heat but also highlighted a cost-effective and simple cooling mechanism for homes in similarly hot climates.
The success of this initiative underscores the potential for low-tech, sustainable solutions in addressing environmental discomforts in residential areas. Padojinig’s resourceful thinking has transformed the living conditions in his home, offering a practical example of how traditional methods can be adapted to modern-day challenges.
