The Israeli military has announced an escalation in its state of readiness for potential conflict in the north, following six months of ongoing exchanges with Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia. In a recent operation termed “Readiness for the Transition from Defense to Offense,” Israel has focused on logistical preparations for a substantial mobilization of its troops, including both regular and reserve units.

Tensions have been high since October when Hezbollah and Israel began exchanging fire across Lebanon’s southern border, intensifying after Hamas’s attacks on Israel, which led to the war in Gaza. The situation has strained relations and heightened military activities, with Israel conducting airstrikes in eastern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah’s infrastructure in response to the downing of an Israeli drone by the group.

Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets at an Israeli air defense base in the Golan Heights. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and displacements on both sides, with diplomatic efforts by the US and other nations underway to seek a resolution to the ongoing hostilities, which are some of the most severe since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
