A new stage production, Jeproks: The Musical, is bringing Mike Hanopol’s legendary rock sound—and his classic hit Laki sa Layaw—to a new generation. Set in the 1970s, the story follows three friends, Mico, Willi, and Paulo, who form a band called Sikatuna, chasing fame while navigating life’s challenges.
The musical is inspired by Hanopol’s spirit rather than being a strict biography. With a live eight-piece band, the songs are reimagined for the stage while retaining the raw energy of his rock roots.
Rock veteran Jett Pangan returns to theater as Tatay Paking, a conservative father figure, while David Ezra plays the lead role of Mico, a character loosely based on Hanopol.
The production features 15 of Hanopol’s iconic songs, including “Laki sa Layaw (Jeproks),” “Buhay Amerika,” and “Balong Malalim.” It aims to connect with both older OPM fans and younger theatergoers, highlighting themes of rebellion, friendship, and self-discovery.
