Joanne Thornley, representing Angeles City, has officially withdrawn from the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 competition due to health reasons. Her departure was confirmed by Gerry Diaz of the Aces and Queens pageant camp, who shared a heartfelt statement on social media about her exit.

The announcement did not specify Thornley’s health condition but emphasized the necessity of prioritizing her well-being, leading to her withdrawal from several pageant activities. Thornley is the second contestant to withdraw from this year’s pageant, following Natasha Jung of Kananga.

The Miss Universe Philippines Angeles City organization expressed gratitude to the national pageant body, sponsors, and supporters for their involvement in Thornley’s journey, highlighting the commitment to empowering women. Although it remains unclear whether a new representative for Angeles City will be announced, the organization continues to urge support for the remaining contestants.

Thornley’s withdrawal reduces the number of contenders to 54, as the pageant progresses to select a successor to Michelle Marquez Dee, aiming for the Philippines’ fifth win in the upcoming 73rd Miss Universe competition in Mexico.
