Veteran actor Joel Torre shared the artists he’d invite to a dream dinner party during Friday’s episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda. Torre’s thoughtful selection spanned generations of talent, from iconic names in Philippine cinema to rising stars in the industry.

Honoring Cherie Gil and Other Icons

Torre fondly mentioned his late friend and frequent collaborator, Cherie Gil. “I think I made more movies with Cherie than any other leading lady. Bihira kang magkakaroon ng babae na kaibigan, alam mo ’yon? And exchange of ideas,” he said, highlighting their unique bond.

He also included the late Vic Silayan, a legendary actor, and director Mike De Leon. Torre admired their contributions to the “golden era of Philippine cinema.” Referring to Silayan’s haunting performance in Kisapmata, Torre shared, “When I saw Kisapmata, dun ako—nayanig talaga ako sa kaniya.”

Celebrating Fellow and Emerging Talent

Ronnie Lazaro, Torre’s co-star in Oro, Plata, Mata and the upcoming MMFF entry Green Bones, was also on his list. Torre expressed gratitude for their enduring friendship and shared history.

Torre did not overlook the current generation, naming Sid Lucero and Euwenn Mikaell as young talents he admires. He praised Mikaell, his co-star in the hit Netflix drama Lolo and the Kid, which recently topped charts in 38 countries.

“It was such a phenomenal [movie], and everybody’s raving about Euwenn,” Torre said, seeing shades of his younger self in the rising star. “I want this boy to really succeed kasi nakikita ko sa kaniya ’yung sarili ko noong bata pa ako when I was doing theater.”

A Celebration of Philippine Cinema

Through his carefully chosen dinner guest list, Torre underscored the rich history, artistry, and promising future of Philippine cinema, bridging generations of talent and creativity.
