Despite her petite stature, Jonalyn Johns has made a significant mark as a Filipina truck driver in the United States, maneuvering massive 18-wheeler trucks with skill and confidence. Her journey into the male-dominated world of truck driving was inspired by her husband, a truck driver whom she met online and married in 2016, leading her to migrate to the U.S.
Initially a single mother and later working in a home care facility, Jonalyn faced the challenge of juggling time with her husband, who was often away on long hauls. Encouraged by her husband, she decided to join him in the trucking business, not only to improve their financial situation but also to spend more time together as a family.
Jonalyn’s entry into truck driving school was not easy, given the male-dominated environment, but her determination led her to master driving large trucks and handling tasks like securing cargo and attaching double-trailers. Her competence often surprises onlookers who are not used to seeing a woman behind the wheel of such large vehicles.
Despite feeling shy about the extra attention she receives, Jonalyn takes pride in her work, enjoying the travel and scenic views it offers, and maintaining close communication with her daughter and husband. She sees her job as a way to provide a better life for her family and inspire her daughter, aiming to improve their life circumstances and be a source of pride for the next generation.
