Kevin Quiambao, the star forward of the DLSU Green Archers, has shared his thoughts on his future following their heartbreaking loss to the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in Game 3 of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball finals.
“For now, ayoko muna isipin. Pahinga muna talaga ako kasi eight months akong nagba-basketball. Tuluy-tuloy, straight,” said Quiambao, emphasizing the need for rest after a grueling eight-month basketball stretch. “Until this December. Pahinga muna ako then I don’t know what’s next. Hindi ko alam.”
Finals Performance and Trust in Coach Topex Robinson
In the final game, Quiambao scored 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting, along with four rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Despite being benched during a critical stretch in the fourth quarter, he expressed his trust in head coach Topex Robinson’s decisions.
“Tiwala naman ako kay Coach Topex ever since Day One,” Quiambao said. “Medyo nagkaroon lang ng ano nung doon sa inupo ako. Kasi akala ko one minute lang… Pero kinapos talaga kami. Talo, move on na.”
Taking Accountability for the Loss
Ever humble, Quiambao took full responsibility for the team’s finals defeat but remained proud of their efforts.
“Win or lose, blame [is] on me. Ako may kasalanan ng lahat ng iyon. I take ownership sa lahat ng ginawa ko,” he said. “Sobrang proud na nakarating kami ng finals, decider Game 3. It’s a surreal feeling for me.”
La Salle’s Future Looks Bright
Quiambao expressed optimism about La Salle’s promising future with the addition of standout players like Kean Baclaan, Mason Amos, Luis Pablo, and Jacob Cortez.
“‘Yung hard work nila since day one, grabe. Sobrang dami naming pinagsamahan throughout the whole season. Excited ako sa future. For sure they will be scary next season,” Quiambao said.
Coach Topex Robinson on Quiambao’s Legacy
Coach Topex Robinson acknowledged Quiambao’s impact, hinting that this may have been his final season with the team.
“We just thank him for his service. Hindi naman ito sorpresa that this might be his final season. He just gave us until the final buzzer, he never gave up, and he’ll be remembered as one of the best to ever wear that jersey,” Robinson said.
As Quiambao takes time to rest and reflect, La Salle is already preparing for its next chapter, bolstered by a strong core of young talent and a legacy of resilience left behind by one of its brightest stars.
