The La Mesa Dam in Quezon City has reached its spilling level due to continuous rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported early Wednesday.

As of 12:20 a.m., the water level was recorded at 79.90 meters. By 5 a.m., it had risen to 80.16 meters, surpassing the dam’s spilling level of 80.15 meters, according to Edgar dela Cruz, a weather facilities specialist from PAGASA’s Hydrometeorology Division, in an interview with Super Radyo dzBB.

Although the overflow is currently minimal, PAGASA has cautioned residents in low-lying areas, particularly those who have previously experienced flooding, to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.

The weather bureau specifically warned that water from La Mesa Dam could impact low-lying areas along the Tullahan River, including parts of Quezon City (such as Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Valenzuela (Bgy. Ligon, North Expressway, La Huerta Subdivision), and Malabon.

PAGASA will continue to monitor the hydrological conditions at La Mesa Dam and provide updates to local government units to ensure community safety.
